For the past five years I have enjoyed the freedom to spend my time doing whatever I wanted to do without having the necessity of have to go to work. I am financially independent
. My working life has spanned forty-eight years; it has been very much a, “a life” of two halves and it is explained on the home page, “My Journey so far …”

Monday 15th
I’ve just driven several hundred miles back to the UK from Portugal via Northern Spain taking the car ferry from Santander to Portsmouth. Our first call before the final leg of the journey home to The Fylde Coast is to visit our daughter Sara, her husband Ismail and Danny our youngest grandson in the east midlands for a few days.
We celebrate his third birthday on 18th with a picnic close to his home in the countryside by the banks of the River Nene and the next day by taking him by train to London for the day enjoying lunch in China Town and a visit to the Natural History Museum in South Kensington.
Seeing the Dinosaur exhibits and Dan’s reaction is a great treat all round.

Friday 14th
Back home in Ansdell, Russ tidied the weeds growing in the front garden this morning. A mixture of rain sun and cloud all day.
Outside temperature at 9 o Celsius.
Very relieved to learn from a visit to Graham, my optician my sudden apparent failing eyesight is due to my spectacles’ lenses and not the physical state of the health of my eyes.
Saturday 15th
We both woke late and didn’t finish breakfast until 10.30.am. After a quick coffee Sue drove us into the Square at St Annes on the sea and picked up a little household shopping and then returned home for lunch.
Friday 21st to 25th
Arrived with Sue by car in Oundle to stay with our grandson Daniel and his mother Sara. Ismail, Daniels father was away on a long overdue visit to his widowed mother and family in the Kurdish autonomous region of Iraq.
Whilst Sara was busily involved with duties relating to her work in the education field we were kept busy with looking after Daniel. We took him to a friends birthday party on 22nd and out for an evening meal at the local Pizza Restaurant.
I accompanied Daniel to Oundle Town’s football ground on 23rd where he met up with a couple of friends with whom he practiced general football techniques including keeping goal.
We visited a local farm where we bought some locally grown asparagus.
